Apple brings ProRes RAW codec beta to Windows, works with Adobe software

Apple launchedProRes RAW for Windowsin beta this week (viaMacObserver). ProRes RAW is a family of codecs that enables the playback of ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ video files. ProRes RAW is also the native file format for Final Cut Pro on Macs.

In its current form, Apple says that the ProRes RAW software is compatible with a limited set of Adobe beta apps. Here’s a look at what’s included:

ProRes RAW also requires you to be running a 64-bit version of Windows 10.

With the ProRes RAW software installed, editors using Adobe software will be able to work with ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ files. “When you store a clip in the ProRes RAW format rather than in a proprietary camera raw format, you get more control over the processing of the image, including demosaicing, linear-to-log conversions, and custom LUTs,” Apple says in asupport articlefor ProRes RAW.
