Google is revamping the “AI Settings” Page in the Chrome browser in the Canary version with more clarity on privacy and other implications of using Chrome’s AI features.

Afterintegrating Gemini into Chrome address bar, Google has started adding and making AI features available one by one, that can help you get things done faster on the web.

One thing to take note of is that these are all experimental features in development, and may not always be right. Google makes Chrome features optional to try out in the “Experimental AI” section of settings.

The experimental AI Settings page features a Tab organizer that allows it toautomatically create tab groups based on tabs open, History Search, powered by AI that givesanswers to your questions based on browser history.

There are other Chrome AI features available such as Help Me Write, Create themes using AI, Tab Compare, new Google Lens on desktop. But these are offered to users in different ways, but may not be via via Experimental AI Settings.

The AI Settings give a warning before you enable AI features to warn that they “are in early development, and won’t always get things right.” Each AI feature will have its description and toggle to enable or disable.

For instance, when you consider “History Search, powered by AI”, it informs you with clear text what happens “When (its) on” – that is, you get AI-powered History search results including Answers to your questions. Chrome also cautions the user with a “Things to consider” message: your search history will be“sent to Google and may be seen by Human reviewersto improve this feature.”

Regarding security, the AI history search description confirms, “page contents are encrypted and saved to your device.” The feature may also affect Chrome’s performance.

Chrome may be doing that now with the ‘AI Page Settings refresh’ flag in canary, which ‘enables a revamp of the existing AI Settings page’ for Chrome on Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and Lacros.

We have included the present and new Experimental AI settings Page screenshots for comparison above.
