Indie MEGABOOTH going on indefinite hiatus due to COVID-19 outbreak

Indie MEGABOOTH, the gaming convention staple that showcased dozens of indie games over the years, is going on indefinite hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In ablog poston the organization’s website, founder Kelly Wallick said that this is due to the cancelation of many of the in-person events that it often attends, including GDC, and the “high level of uncertainty” that the coronavirus outbreak has created.

“It was a difficult and disappointing decision to make,” Wallick wrote. “Realistically though, we’re a very small team and this situation is bigger than us. Our primary focus right now is to stay healthy and safe through the COVID-19 situation as it’s unfolding.”

Indie MEGABOOTH has been a frequent sight at events like PAX, GDC, and more. It showcased hundreds of indie games over the years, including recent releases like Mutazione, Elsinore, and Creature in the Well. Its last big event (and the last for many in the gaming industry before the pandemic locked down a lot of the world) was PAX East 2020.

The team had been organizing a Steam sale for early May and right now it’s being called the Going Away (for now) Sale. It’ll feature over 100 games that have previously been in the showcase (although there’s no list available yet) and will take place from May 5-12. The participating developers will be using a “pay what you want” revenue share with the MEGABOOTH to help recoup costs.

Wallick did mention that she will be keeping up with the Discord, mailing and alumni lists during the “hibernation.”
