It seems that installingthe 24H2 Major Update for Windows 11might cause more issues than the usual installation ones, as once installed, it might deactivate Windows 11 altogether.

Accordingto several Reddit users, this issue has happened to a string of devices that were updated to Windows 11 24H2. After installation, Windows 11 appeared deactivated. However, it seemed that for some, the issue solved itself.

The issue seems to affect Windows 11 devices connected to servers, and according to Reddit users, running a simple troubleshooting fixes them.

I noticed my Windows got deactivated after the update to 24H2, it solve itself. We use Enterprise edition and I looked into the logs but couldn’t find anything related to activation other than the notification banner (source log was from something to do with SSP). Now some of my end users are also reporting that their machines are showing that are not activated. So far all of them have the 24H2 feature update in common and by running the troubleshooting it goes away. Anyone else has experienced something similar?

Fortunately, the issue doesn’t seem widespread, but dozens of users have been affected.

While the issue should go away by itself or by running simple troubleshooting, it seems that some users had to run PowerShell scripts to check if Windows was deactivated following the 24H2 installation and, if so, reactivate it.

Microsoft doesn’t list this issue as a known issueon the Release Health page, so installing 24H2 might deactivate Windows 11 in only a handful of devices. However, this might change in the following days.

Are you experiencing this issue?
