The live-action Borderlands film set to be released by Lionsgate has found its director. Horror director and notedSplat Packmember Eli Roth has earned the role, according to the studio. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford saidhow excited he wasfor Roth to join the Borderlands family. Rothechoed this sentimenton his own Twitter.

Roth is known for his work on horror movies such as Cabin Fever and Hostel, along with his use of an excessive amount of blood. Given the amount of blood and guts in the Borderlands universe, it seems he’ll fit right in.

“Randy Pitchford and everyone at Gearbox have been incredibly supportive of my ideas—it really feels like a perfect storm of creators coming together,” he said. “We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally.”

The film is set to be based on a screenplay from Craig Mazin, who recently created and wrote the HBO hit Chernobyl. Randy Pitchford and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick will co-executive produce the movie.

Though it still doesn’t have a release date, the movie is expected to begin filming later this year. A cast has not been announced.
