Microsoft has recently expanded the language capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot. This AI-powered tool has added 12 new languages, bringing the total to 42. The new languages include Bulgarian, Croatian, Estonian, Greek, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Slovenian, and Vietnamese.
These languages were teased earlier this year, in an entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. Here’s whatthe entry says:
The Copilot for Microsoft 365 team is working on supporting 12 new languages across all M365 Copilot features: Bulgarian, Croatian, Estonian, Greek, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Slovenia, and Vietnamese. They’re also improving the handling of these language variants: Dutch (Belgium), German (Switzerland), English (UK), Spanish (Mexico), and French (Canada).
This means users from all Europe can use Copilot in their native language, and the AI model will respond to them in that language, without the need to translate. Alternatively, you can converse with Copilot in another language other than English, and have the AI tool respond to you in English.
There are also some hiccups to watch out for – for instance, Microsoft notes that users working in Serbian will see Teams meeting transcripts in Cyrillic, not Latin script. Microsoft says it’s working on resolving this and will provide updates on progress.
The additional support should make Copilot a valuable tool to have when dealing or processing lots of information. For example, such an extended support could be useful in cases whereforms, or quizzes are set in multiple languages.
However, according to the announcement, not all users will receive the new languages simultaneously. For instance, the Indonesian and Serbian languages are being rolled out in stages and may not reach all customers until early November.
Microsoft is not done adding new languages to Copilot. The company plans to support even more languages in the coming months.
