In the updated version of Paint, Microsoft introduces Generative Fill, a feature that uses AI to add new details to your artwork. As you select an area of your canvas, you can describe what you want to add to your selection, and generative fill will offer a suggestion. The feature was teased earlier this year, and it’s one of many AI features coming to Paint –together with Cocreator.

If you don’t like what’s proposed, you can ask the tool to try again, cycle through new options, or refine your selection. Generative Fill will first be available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs and require a Microsoft account.

On the flip side, Paint now has a Generative Erase tool that automatically removes objects from a canvas. Using Generative Erase, you can manually brush over one or multiple areas of a canvas to select the content you want to remove.

You can also use the tool with a rectangle or free-form selection to specify an area you wish to erase.

In a blog post, Microsoft says the features are rolling out to Windows Insiders in thelatest Canary and Dev Channelsbeginning today and will soon be available to all Insiders.

What do you think of all the AI-powered Generative Fill features in Microsoft Paint? Does it seem genuinely helpful, or is it more of a novelty?
