Many within the gaming/Xbox community agree that the Xbox Series S should not have existed. Why, you might ask? Well, arguably, it’s pushing away games from the console, according to an Xbox user on Reddit.
More specifically, Xbox Series S is the culprit for game studios releasing their games for Xbox later than the other platforms. It happened, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most famous. Wukong: Black Myth is another recent example.
According to the user, the developers need extra time to make demanding games run on casual consoles, such as the Xbox S. While the Xbox X is arguably on par with PlayStation 5 and can run most of these games perfectly, the Xbox S, which is suited for more casual gaming but less powerful than its older sibling, sometimes struggles to maintain a balanced performance.
Considering this, Microsoft’s policy that all games running on X must run on S, too, makes the Xbox miss the release date for important games, leaving people without the possibility of experiencing them at the same time as the rest of the world, agrees the gamer.
These are valid points if we don’t consider that the Xbox Series S is selling much better than the Xbox Series X, and Microsoft has no reason to give up on it yet. In fact, the Redmond-based tech giant recently releasedenhanced versions for both Xbox S and X consoles.
A report published last year revealedthat in 2022, 74,8% of Xbox Series owners had the S version, while the rest, 25,1%, owned the X version. And that’s for good reason, too. The S is often cheaper than the X, and many users choose it over the X.
Some people from the Xbox community agree that price is a big factor when considering purchasing an Xbox Series console, while others consider the S an entry point to the Xbox console. Others believe the Xbox Series S should not be held responsible for the developers’ fault.
This is nothing more than an excuse used by developers. The requirement is known to them from the very start. If they ignore it until the end of development, it is their own fault.
Some even agree that the S is not holding the Xbox console down but rather encouraging developers to optimize games for other consoles and even PCs.
What do you think about the Xbox Series S? Is it holding Xbox down?
