Microsoft is taking all the means to make Outlook a more inclusive platform, and the tech giant’s latest announcement proves it: Outlook for Web and Desktop will soon feature a name pronunciation label in the profile card.

According to the latest entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Outlook users can record and share the correct pronunciation of their name and put it on their profile cards so that others know how to pronounce it. The Redmond-based tech giant says this will spare everyone from awkward moments when they don’t pronounce their names correctly.

Here’swhat the entry says:

You can now record and share the correct pronunciation of your name, promoting inclusivity and helping colleagues avoid mispronunciations. With a click, you can play and listen to your colleagues’ name pronunciations. #newoutlookforwindows

Outlook is the first platform, and Microsoft Teams might soon follow: earlier this year, we discovered that the tech gianthas actually patented a technology for it.

Outlook for Mobile will also soon be updated to letusers choose their preferred pronouns. The Web version already has this option, but the Mobile version doesn’t.

The name pronunciation label in Outlook will be previewed this month, with a general release schedule to roll out in January 2025.
