QuakeCon 2020 canceled due to the spread of COVID-19

What you need to know

QuakeCon is an annual event held by ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, to celebrate and show off different Bethesda titles, such as Doom Eternal atQuakeCon 2019. It’s been held every year since 1996 but unfortunately, that streak is being broken this year. Like so many other events, QuakeCon 2020 is being canceled due to the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19.

id Software and Bethesda Softworks released a statement on Twitter, explaining that while QuakeCon wouldn’t be held until August, planning and volunteers would be needed well before then, which simply can’t happen with the pandemic. You can see the full statement on Twitter below.

id Software and Bethesda Softworks do note that the companies will be looking into other ways to celebrate the spirit of QuakeCon in August. Many other events have been canceled or postponed so far this year, including GDC 2020 and E3 2020. We’ll have to wait and see what else is affected in the months to come.
