Windows 10 devices are being hit with a strange but obvious scam that splashes the login screen with the MICROSOFT BLOCKED message. (Please note that the message can also appear in lowercase letters)

The scam compromises these devices, and users can no longer access them unless they follow the hacker’s instructions.

While this is by no means new—Microsoft products and services are constantly hit by hackers, scammers, phishing attacks, and so on—the MICROSOFT BLOCKED scam is starting to gain popularity, as more and moreWindows users on Redditreported that their devices were affected.

What can you do to protect yourself from these scammers?

Don’t open suspicious links in emails or download files from untrustworthy sources. Also, make sure you have all the means of protection enabled, including changing your passwords frequently and enabling 2FA (2-factor authentication) or MFA (multi-factor authentication).

However, if you were scammed this way, know you can still recover and bypass this scam by changing the password to Windows without having to log in. The trick is to followour comprehensive guideand have some patience.

Don’t be discouraged by the title; the good thing with these solutions is that if they worked on Windows 7, there is a good chance they’ll work on Windows 10, as well. It involves using Command Prompt and some commands inside of it to access the accessibility utilities executable and replace it.

After successfully accessing your PC, scan it and secure your files, folders, and sensitive data.
