Microsoft has rolled out the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4291 (KB5043166) to the Beta Channel. This version brings performance improvements and security updates that refine the Windows 11 experience before the public release.
One of the most notable changes inKB5043166 is the updated design of the Disconnect and Logoff dialogs in the Task Manager. The dialogs now support dark mode and text scaling, thus blending seamlessly with the rest of the OS UI.
Another change in this build affects the Performance section of the Task Manager. Listed disks are now labeled with their type (e.g., NVMe or SATA), which should help users better understand their PC’s storage configuration.
In the Settings app, Tailored Experiences is now called Personalized Offers in Windows OOBE. The new setting, found under Settings > Privacy & Security > Recommendations and Offers, gives users more control over the way Windows uses information about their devices to enhance the OS experience.
In addition to the above features, KB5043166 includes several bug fixes and performance improvements.
For example, Microsoft says it’s fixed an issue causing sporadic explorer.exe crashes when using Alt + Tab, an issue causing the Start menu’s All Apps list to break if you clicked or tapped on a letter, and an issue where Snipping Tool would unexpectedly close when attempting to paste a screen snippet into an app like Paint or Mail.
Several bug fixes are also included for Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and other apps and services.
As always, it’s worth noting that KB5043166 ships with several known issues. After installing the latest update, you might notice that there’s more spacing between items in the Start menu’s All Apps list than expected. And if you use Windows’ live captions feature, it might crash when you try to use it.
In related news, Microsoft has issued a new version of the Snipping Tool to the Beta and Release Preview Channels. The latest update (version 11.2408.15.0 and newer) introduces the abilityto change the folder where original screenshots and screen recordings are automatically saved.
To change the default folder, open the Snipping Tool, click the three-dot menu, and select “App settings.”
