Microsoft released the Insider Preview Build 26120.2122, KB5044374, to the Windows 11 Dev Channel. This build has brought many changes and dozens of fixes to the operating system, including one that allows Snipping Tool to extract information from tables in screenshots.
The updated Snipping Tool (version 11.2409.22.0 and newer) is now out to Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels. It introduces a new “Copy as table” feature that allows users to copy structured table data from screenshots into an email, document, or spreadsheet.
To use the feature, capture a screenshot with table data, select “Text actions,” and then select “Copy as a table.” However, the feature works best with screenshots containing one table. This comes a few weeks after Microsoft finally allowed users to savetheir Snipping Tool screenshotswherever they pleased.
KB5044374 also refreshes previews when users mouse over or hover over apps on the taskbar. Based on feedback from insider testers, the animations associated with these previews have been made smoother.
Within the Task Manager, the design of the Disconnect and Logoff dialogs now supports dark mode and text scaling. In the Performance section, the listed disks are now labeled with their type.
Some of the fixes that are being released gradually to the Dev Channel with the feature rollout toggle enabled include:
KB5044374 includes a fix for an issue that could cause the Start menu’s All Apps list to break when users click or tap on a letter. Users encountering this issue should try rebooting or restarting explorer.exe to resolve it.
Another fix addresses a new issue introduced in a recent build, causing live captions to crash when users attempt to use them.
As usual, the new build comes with a list of known issues. They include an issue where the All apps list may break if users click or tap on a letter and another issue causing live captions to crash.
Microsoft says it’s investigating an issue with the gestures for switching between Virtual Desktops.
